Multiple schemes Not a "first home owner grant"
Home Buyer Grants in the Northern Territory
The NT does not run a grant called the first home owner grant. It runs several home-buyer schemes with different names and different eligibility — and one important detail on its own site that most comparison articles miss.
What the NT Government actually says
- The NT "offers grants to assist with building or purchasing a home in the Territory" — through HomeGrown Territory Grants.
- Existing home owners may be eligible for the FreshStart New Home Grant, which offers $30,000 to purchase or build a new home.
- First-home buyers could get $10,000 if they signed a contract to purchase an existing home between 1 October 2024 and 30 September 2025 — a window that has now closed.
We are not publishing an NT first home buyer figure, and that is deliberate. The NT's own pages describe the $30,000 grant as being for existing home owners, and the first-home-buyer payment it names has expired. Rather than guess at the current position, this page tells you what the government says and sends you to the source.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Northern Territory have a first home owner grant?
The NT does not run a grant under that name. It offers HomeGrown Territory grants and the FreshStart New Home Grant, which are structured differently from the other states.
How much is the FreshStart New Home Grant?
The NT Government describes it as offering $30,000 to purchase or build a new home — but its own page describes it as being for existing home owners, so it is not the same thing as a first home buyer grant.
Why is there no amount on this page?
Because we could not establish the current first-home-buyer position from the NT Government's own pages. Its page lists a $10,000 payment for first-home buyers who signed a contract for an existing home between 1 October 2024 and 30 September 2025 — a window that has closed. Rather than publish a figure that may be out of date, we are telling you what the NT site actually says.
Where should I check?
The NT Government's home owner assistance pages, and the Territory Revenue Office. The link is at the bottom of this page.
How do the other states compare?
Every other state and territory pays a defined first home owner grant, mostly $10,000 to $30,000, and the ACT stopped paying one in 2019. See the comparison table.
